Streptococcus Pneumoniae, the Leading Organism of Child Pneumonia among Gram-positive Bacteria

Objective: Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can cause mild to severe illness in people of all ages. Aims: The aims were to identify the most common organisms and their recent drug resistance pattern. Materials and Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in the microbiological laboratory of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi from September 2011 to August 2013. Children aged 5 to 15 years were included in the study with positive sputum samples. Gram-positive cocci were identified by gram staining, blood culture, and different biochemical tests.
